Limited Edition M&Ms Cinnamon Milk ChocolateWhen I saw a tweet from The Impulsive Buy that there was a new kind of M&Ms, I was on the case. Marvo tracked them down, they’re called Cinnamon M&Ms and they’re an exclusive to Target stores right now (though some folks have them on eBay as well). The bags are slight, with only 9.9 ounces compared to the standard 12 ounce bag of Milk Chocolate M&MS for the same price. The package features the Green M&M in a white knit cap & scarf holding some cinnamon sticks. The illustration shows that the candies come in three deep red colors. The pieces vary in size and slightly in color. The deep red and maroon are almost indistinguishable in lower light situations.
The pieces are larger than the regular Milk Chocolate M&Ms. The color is not quite as dense or shiny as the regular M&Ms. They’re a little dusty colored, like the color coating isn’t as thick or they aren’t as polished. It appears that the shade of brown and red are identical to the standard Milk Chocolate red and brown, but the maroon is new. The flavor, as Marvo pointed out in his review, tastes like it’s concentrated in the shell of the candy, not in the milk chocolate. Some shells taste more cinnamony than others, but the red tastes the most like cinnamon. It’s not a “red hot” sort of flavor, it’s more of the ground spice flavor. It’s woodsy and rich with a slight heat to it, but nothing that’s too warm. The largest pieces feel like they’re layered; as if they start out as a regular sized M&M, then get another layer of chocolate to supersize them. (They used to make Mega M&Ms, maybe this is just the same equipment being put to use.) The flavor is different but not radical. It’s subtle and pleasant, but masks the also mild chocolate flavors from Mars very sweet milk chocolate. The candy shell is fun to crack and the textures work exceptionally well in this instance because of the ratios with the larger chocolate pieces. I can’t say that I’ve been longing for these all of my life; and I can’t say, especially at this price, that I’d buy them again. Like the Coconut M&Ms, they’re only vaguely different but the cinnamon, like coconut, is a polarizing flavor. Either you like it or you don’t. So there will be folks out there that won’t. I can say that these go very nicely with coffee, the cinnamon adds that fall, harvest essence to the whole event. So settle down with the morning paper and toss a few Cinnamon M&Ms onto your saucer for a little extra bump. For traditionalist, the Milk Chocolate Mint M&Ms are also returning for Christmas. Ohhh, these sound very tasty to me!
Cinnamon and chocolate? Add a cup of coffee to that and it’s heaven for me!
I wish I coukd find these here, but I am very sure I wont :/
Looks like I’ll be heading to Target tomorrow. :D
I went to WalMart this weekend and found a bag of “cherry cordial” M&M’s. Like the cinnamon they are larger and are red or the dark red/maroon color. Seems like most of the cherry flavor is in the shell of this one too, with a hint of cherry in the milk chocolate.
I looked for these at Target the other day with no success. Yet another limited edition that hasn’t made it to Chicago.
Maybe soon…
the candy fan - I looked in the candy aisle and the small bit of holiday candy they had on display in the food section and they weren’t there. Instead they were by the registers with a few other early holiday candies. (Our Target stores are pretty stringent about holiday displays for some reason. I don’t expect to see Christmas stuff until late November.)
Marilyn - how fun! I didn’t expect to see those until January for Valentine’s.
Is this Target’s response to Wal-Mart’s exclusive candy corn flavor?
I also saw the cherry cordial M&Ms; at Wal-Mart over the weekend—so I guess that’s their answer to the Target exclusive that was the answer to Wal-Mart’s exclusive!
I’m exhausted!
I love M&M’s and Hot Tamales are my all-time favorite candy, but cinnamon and chocolate together? NOOOOO!!!!! It’s just WRONG!
And BTW, I LOVE cherry cordial M&M’s (maybe because chocolate and cherries DO go together!).
Hey guys! I’m excited to see that Mars has finally produced Cinnamon M&Ms;! I started a Facebook campaign over a year ago for Mars to produce this flavor (see link). I haven’t tried them, yet, because I just learned about it, but I will get to Target soon and grab some!
I picked up a bag of these today, they’re pretty pleasant. I’ve tried some high end chocolate bars with cinnamon before and hated them because the cinnamon was too intense. This is a great product for someone such as me that wants a little cinnamon in their chocolate.
SallyO, cinnamon and chocolate go together very well in a lot of ways- such as in cakes or in hot cocoa.
My husband and I absolutely loved the cinnamon m&m’s and he ate most of them even tho they were a gift (from him) to me. I really wanted to get more for him for Fathers Day but, of course, cant find them now. I tried going to the m&m site to see if I could order them and personaize them, but, no, I guess I can’t. Very disappointed as this would have been a perfect gift for him. By the way, when I orginally had them (I thought it was a gift for Valentines Day, but it may have been Christmas) they weren’t bought from Target at all.
