In the latest Candyology 101 podcast, Maria and I tackled a little-celebrated candy bar, the Whatchamacallit. We’re also trying out a new format, which is a little shorter, like a handful of fun size candy bars!
Please enjoy the show notes which include some classic Whatchamacallit commercials.

Whatchamacallit has to be the the most underrated candy bar ever. Could be because the odd name and neutral coloring of the packaging. For people who know about this wonderful bar, the packaging stands out in a sea of blue, orange and red packaging. Great peanut flavor that is complimented with creamy caramel, then coated with yummy chocolate.
For people who have never tried it, do yourself a favor and get one. It is totally a hidden gem. Also, so much nostalgia for those who had these in the 80’s.
Nice to see the Whatchamacallit get some love. As much as I love caramel, I actually preferred the taste of the bar before they added in the caramel. Definitely one of the better candy bars that came out of the 80s (my personal favorite was the Go Ahead bar, but sadly I must have been the only one who liked them as they stopped making them not too long after they were first introduced.
I echo Kevin, when he say nice to see the Whatchamacallit get some love. When this candy bar came out it was one of my favorites. But for some reason I got away from them. Thanks to this article I am going to Walmart tomorrow and grab my a fist full of Whatchamacallits. Underrated is right. Whatchamacallit taste like the new Snickers Crisper Bar, which are selling like hotcakes.
I’ve been saying this for years. These are delicious, and I’m torn between wanting to spread the joy all around and ensure they stay in production; and keeping them all to myself. Whatchamacallit 4 lyfe, yo.
