M&Ms Razzberry - Limited EditionI’m a little late to this Limited Edition Milk Chocolate Razzberry M&Ms story, but mostly because I couldn’t find them anywhere in Los Angeles. I tried all my usual haunts (RiteAid, Walgreen’s, Von’s, CVS, Target & 7-11) and finally found them Wednesday night at the Dollar Tree in Harbor City on my way to San Pedro. The bag felt a little light, and it is. It’s only 1.5 ounces instead of the usual 1.74 ounces for the Peanut variety or 1.69 ounces for the Milk Chocolate. (Of course the Pirate Pearls ones were similiarly scant.) The bag is a pleasant hot pink and urges me to “Get Razzed” ... which as far as my understanding of the lingo that the kids use these days, that means, “Get Harassed.” Okely Dokely! At first when I dumped these out to take their photo I thought I got a bad bag. The color looks completely off. Now if you just handed me a bowl of them, I might say, “Oh, what a lovely muted pink color!” But because of the brightness of the package, this feels like it clashes, which makes me feel like it’s unintended. But looking around at other photos on Flickr of the candies, it seems like they’re supposed to be this way. The size and shape is also irregular. Some are the same size as typical Milk Chocolate M&Ms and others are as big as the now-discontinued Mega M&Ms. I rather like the regularity of M&Ms when spread out on my desk when eating them, but these just didn’t please me as much with their appearance. The candies smell, like, well, someone spilled a bottle of raspberry after-bath spritz. I’ve spent a lot of time with fresh raspberries. When I was a kid, for several years when we lived in Ohio we had a raspberry patch in the back yard which was absurdly productive. While they weren’t wild berries, they certainly weren’t like the commercial ones sold in stores today. They were on the small side but bursting with flavor, a combination of sweet, tart and floral. By the time I was a teenager and we moved away, I was so spoiled by the real thing that I couldn’t stand raspberry flavored things or bring myself to spend $5 for a teensy little portion of watery-tasting fresh berries at the grocery store. The Milk Chocolate is okay, for some reason it tastes sweeter than the regular Milk Chocolate M&Ms (remember, I’ve eaten a lot of those lately), it could be the larger size of most of them that gave a bigger hit of the ordinary chocolate center. The chocolate simply wasn’t creamy and I have to wonder if these were stored properly. Southern California experienced a wicked heat spell around Labor Day weekend and there were sporadic power outages all over which means that these could have bloomed in some way. M&Ms stressed in their press releases about these that they’re the first fruit flavored M&Ms ever given full distribution. (I guess they were ignoring those super exclusive fruity ones they did last year.) I’m sad that they didn’t do orange, as I think that’d be a good place to start. It’s easy to get an authentic orange flavor with chocolate. But then again these aren’t raspberry M&Ms ... no, they’re razzberry M&Ms, here to mock real raspberries (and us) with their fakeness. Other views: Candy Addict gave them a mixed review and Gigi Reviews. If you like Raspberry Frangos, you’ll probably like these. Related Candies

Have you ever gone back and done a round-up of these limited-edition versions of mainstream products? Seems to me they hardly ever improve on the original versions (exception: mint kit kats! ). The caramel pecan praline Hershey Nuggets were about the last straw for me, so fake and horrible smelling!
How funny! My girls and I just got home from the grocery where we saw and bought a package of these. The pink package is impossible to resist! My oldest and I weren’t impressed. The little one thinks they are yummy - but she thinks anything labeled “candy” is good. We’ll stick to the peanut butter or dark chocolate M&M’s.
Darn, these sound bad. I wish I could try the cherry almondines! For some reason artificial cherry is fine with me, while strawberry and raspberry make my throat tighten.
Yeah, I wasn’t impressed either.
I was so looking forward to them being amazing, too. Raspberry is my favorite.
I really liked these. I think they’re delicious, so did my boyfriend. If you don’t like razzberryflavoring though, I can see how they would be unappetizing.
I think they should have done Razzberry dark chocolate. Dark chocolate would have been a better choice than milk for this particular flavor combo.
I seen these at a Northridge Rite Aide (next to CSUN) but I didn’t buy them, I’m not a fan of fake raspberry. I grew up with the real things too (W.V.) I wish they would make orange ones, orange and chocolate is a wonderful combo!
I finally found them today at the little market in my town, of all places. I really love them! But I’m a sucker for almost any fruit/chocolate combination.
I’m glad I bought these for only .50 at Walmart. I could barely taste any raspberry at all. Booooo.
Oooh, I liked ‘em. I got them at a local corner grocery the second day they had them (according to the clerk, who told me he liked them). I thought the smell was like the raspberry in those Brach’s pick-a-mix ‘cordials’ - definitely artificial, but at least it didn’t make me think of beauty products! Oh well, if you people don’t like them, there’s more for me. :^)
i agree…they should be dark chocolate..mmm
for someone who llliivvveeesss for berry anything, these kind of grossed me out. too sweet.
I bought them also at a Dollar Tree, and have not seen them anywhere else here. I thought they were just OK. I thought the raspberry flavor was in the chocolate and that was what made it taste a little different(sweeter). I agree dark chocolate would be better, and I would LOVE for these to be in orange flavor!
I don’t know, I liked them. I mean, I wasn’t expecting natural Raspberry flavor. I wanted something that basically tasted like the now discontinued Raspberry Chocolate chips. Came close enough on that count for me to be pleased. To be fair, though, my girlfriend was not impressed.
I had to leave the wife at Dollar Tree at the end of a very frustrating day so I could get our bike-packed car home, but when I returned there to get her, she’d to my delight found the Razzberry M & M’s. (And Mike and Ikes!)
I was very pleased and excited to have new candy to try, but not impressed by the M & M’s themselves. Maybe if they made a Currant flavor I’d be more pleased. (Smile.)
My pregnant friend Sandy is obsessed with these and cannot find them in adequate quantities. Hell, she’s lucky. When I was pregnant all I wanted was Dutch licorice, and that is impossible to find!
My local Walmart had ginormous pink economy-sized bags of them today. I avoided them though .
I LOVE THEM ! The bigger size was fun, and they did have that good fake taste that I don’t mind, because if it tasted too much like the real thing I would get the real thing instead. I love raspberry:D
I may get some more and some of the ungodly good dark chocolate ones just to mix them. I’m not a fan of orange and chocolate, strawberry might be good though. Num num num
I liked those pretty well. I had low expectations.
I thought they were fabulous - as did my dad - but we’re both rather fond of rasberry flavored chocolate. I’ve picked wild framboises before - didn’t spoil me any. Maybe you *did* get a bad package, though? I seem to remember mine being all about the same size…
I came upon these at Wal-mart and was quite surprised that I hadn’t see them on the candy blog. Anyway, I love them!! Just the right twang of raspberry flavor. Reminds me of those raspberry jelly sticks. Yum! I only bought 1 little bag, darn it, and haven’t seen them again.
While perusing the Halloween candy at CVS, I found some Razzberry M & M’s. Although I am not a fan of fruit and chocolate together, I couldn’t resist trying any new M & M plus the hot pink bag is so eye-catching! I have low expectations after reading the blog today. I’ll be back to let you know what I think.
I need some rasberry M&Ms; for my 33 year old son. Let me know how to get them They are very good!!!!!
Thanks
Char
They made another raspberry version called Dark Chocolate Raspberry. The size was inconsistent, but seemed to be intentional, I loved getting varied amounts of Chocolate. These were delicious! If you see these, I think you would like them better because a nice raspberry flavoring tastes best with a dark chocolate. Wish I could find them again.
