All Candy Expo - Taking Requests

imageI’m prepping for the trade show event of the year, All Candy Expo, sponsored by the National Confectioners Association. If there’s anything you’ve always wanted me to review now’s the time to tell me (or remind me). I’ll have an excellent opportunity to pick up samples and pick the brains of the confectioners themselves. (Curious? See the complete list of exhibitors here.)

Leave a comment here (regular reviews continue as usual below).

  1. See if you can find some Razzberry M&Ms; - I’ve been seeing them talked about online, but have had no success at all finding them here in Maryland.

  3. The South Bend Chocolate Company will be there and they really have some fabulous chocolates.  I am not a fan of malted milk balls, but I about swooned when I ate one of theirs.  Also delicious, the chocolate covered candied orange peels.

  4. Sheri-  A coworker found the raspberry m&ms; at a walmart in southern maryland.

A friend said the Georgia Nut Company makes good chocolate covered nuts, and that Cashew Caramel Nut Pattie looks good.

  6. I try to avoid Walmart, but I will give it a try just for the M&Ms;!  I live in Western Maryland, but hopefully they’ll have them.

    Thank you!

  7. Everything! Naw, I trust you to make interesting finds. Although the Pretty Mean Snacks women have some unusual flavor combos.

Wow. I don’t know how I’d manage there. It’s too much and so nirvana-ish at the same time. Enjoy yourself!

  11. I love that the candy bar companies are going back to crisp bars, as opposed to adding caramel to everything.  Please keep an eye out for yummy wafery crisy bars! how I long for the retun of the Summitt bar!  Also, what about Kinder eggs?  (chocholate eggs with a toy surprise inside) My kids love em, but they are hard to find!

  12. You can do a review about the flavored M&Ms;.  They are limited edition (not the raspberry one that everyone has already been talking about) but the almond, cherry, etc flavored ones.  I saw them at target last week.  They are like exquist flavors or something like that.

  13. Have you reviewed Candy Corn Taffy from Sweet’s Candy? Y’all. It tastes like butta. Tell me what you think. Yum!

  14. I’d be interested in hearing about natural/organic cany or ethnic candy. Also, if you see any unusual or funny candy.

  15. I’ve been looking for Sour Slam Wrestling gum by Amurol but don’t see them on the list. The gum might be extinct, but their catch was it got more sour the more you chewed it.

  16. See if you can find some chocolate covered licorice. A friend from Iceland brought me some, but I want to find some here in the states. It was really good!

  17. Your home page says “If there?s anything you?ve wanted me to review”, so… please stop by the Seneca/Orchard Sweet booth (#1182, near the Gourmet Marketplace) while you’re at the Expo to pick up some Seneca Truly Fruit candy.  Brand new and absolutely delicious. Hope to meet you there, too! (I’m the Director of Information Systems for the company).

Thank you and have a great time!

  19. Reese’s Whipps! (Is it like a peanut butter 3 Musketeers?).

And/or a head-to-head of the Hershey’s Nuggets (and the new Nugget Truffles) vs. Nestle Signature Treasures.

Also: Oreo Cakesters, Lindt Creation 70% or Twix Java.

  21. If you get a chance, check out the Eiffel bonbons in the first booth inside the West entrance. I think lots of people will remember these from High School French class. They are unique and tasty! I’d love to see your review.

  22. I’ve long been curious about the Hopjes candies of Holland. My understanding is they were formulated to substitute for coffee but the main ingredient seems to be licorice. Is anyone importing or copying these hopjes candies?

Also, is anyone coming up with a sugar-free or reduced calorie candy that taste good and doesn’t have powerful laxative properties (always spoils a candy for me!).

  23. This isn’t a candy review request, but maybe you could use your influence to bring back Crispy M&Ms;.  Let the Mars bigwigs know that they were the best thing since sliced bread wink

  24. Well, the two I keep wanting you to review won’t be there - Cocoa Puro Kakawa Chocolate covered whole cocoa beans,http://www.cocoapuro.com/ and Cary’s of Grant’s Pass Oregon who make extremely addictive toffee.
So, from the list, it looks like a lot of big commercial company’s and not many Mom & Pop or Artisan, which is what I like to hear about. Hopefully the Europeans bring something innovative. Review something crazy totally new that nobody has heard about!! Nothing that explodes though.
    Thanks!
