I have no idea how long these limited editions last. But I’m still seeing the Whopper’s bars in the 7-11 (I picked up three on this trip and I’m considering checking out CostCo to buy a whole box of them). York did a limited edition Pink Pattie this year too, but that wasn’t really a taste change, as they only made the center of the patties pink instead of white.
This is a different product.
First, I have to say that the Pattie that I got at the 7-11 was exceptionally fresh. The chocolate on the outside was smooth and glossy, the smell was minty with a hint of chocolately promise to it. The center of a York is usually a bit more crumbly, like fudge than it is like a truffle cream. The chocolate truffle pattie is no different. More mint than chocolate, it was much more mild than the traditional mint pattie center. Not quite chocolately, but a nice mellow taste to it. Almost like a brown sugar instead of a sweet white confectioners feel to it.
If you can get past to the promise of a truffle inside, it’s actually a really nice bar. The calorie count per ounce is pretty low for a chocolate candy, so if you’re on a diet and looking for a little treat, this might be very satisfying.
As for the difference from the regular pattie, well, it’s not substantial. If they stick around for a while, I’ll continue buying them. They’re a little creamier, a little mellower than a regular York.
Rating: 8 out of 10
This particular limited edition was around for the holidays last year as well. I liked them well enough, but as you said, there isn’t a substantial difference between it and a normal York.
I got these last December, in the small bite-sized format, from a multi-serve package. (Most went into Christmas stockings!) I liked the fact that the mint was not as sharp as in a regular York pattie - that’s also why I prefer Junior Mints to York.
Oooh! I haven’t seen these before. I’ll look out for them.
These are amazing. We found them at the Hershey’s store in NYC and have not been able to find another bag since coming home. Anyone know which stores sell these? Wallgreens, Grocery stores?
This product is indeed amazing…York has perfected the original peppermint pattie. These should become a permanent staple in the York dynasty.
Great change in the York flavor- we like the milder peppermint flavor - BUT extremely difficult to find and buy in our area - please Hersheys - make it a regular item!
I am pulling my hair out trying to find more of the York Truffles, it must of been just for the Christmas holidays so I have to wait 6 more months to get them again !!!
I’ve had one-just one York Truffle-and have been searching for more ever since. I hope they become at least a seasonal item if not regular.
I have had some good luck finding older limited edition items in your area, Jody. (I just picked up a fresh tasting Whoppers TwoSome at the IGA last month when visiting my mother.)
You might want to try Dollar Tree or a similar store. I just saw them at the 99 Cent Only stores around me.
I just found 6 bags at a “Big Lots” store.
I froze 5 bags so I wouldn’t eat them all !
I just LOVE these. For the last two christmas seasons I’ve become more excited for these than anything else. And I am sad to say that I have not yet seen any in stores this year. I am still searching wherever I go, I am determined to find and eat them once again!
I haven’t seen these until looking through this blog. They look like they might be good! Are they larger than regular York Mints though?
Kara - they were a limited edition item Hershey’s made back in 2005. They were the exact same size as a regular York Pattie. However, if you see one in stores now, I wouldn’t eat it, as it’d be very old.
