Hershey’s S’mores

Name: S’mores
Brand: Hershey’s
Place Purchased: 99 Cent Only Store
Price: 33 cents
Size: 1.65 oz
Calories per ounce: 145
Type: Chocolate Candy/Marshmallow

To follow up on the earlier review of the Cup-O-Gold I figured I’d contrast that with Hershey’s S’mores bar. The S’mores bar is marshmallow on top of a graham cracker crust covered in chocolate. If you recall the S’mores most of us have made, they were a toasted marshmallow (or two), a few squares of Hershey’s chocolate between two graham crackers. What was great about that combo was that you’d freshly toasted the marshmallow so it was retardedly hot in the middle and of cuorse melted the chocolate and the ratio being the dominance of the graham crackers (which also kept your fingers from being burned).

In this bar Hershey’s has the ratios all askew. By far the dominant feature of this bar is the marshmallow center. It’s not a traditional white marshmallow but a slightly tan version that seems a tad nougaty ... perhaps they’re trying to make it taste toasted. Much sweeter than it needed to be and lacked that meringue feeling that a good marshmallow has. There no graham cracker here. Instead the crust seems to be a crisco and cookie bits amalgamation. Then it’s covered in very sweet milk chocolate.

Too sweet, not enough toasty flavor and the graham cracker thing was just plain wrong. Move along, nothing to taste here.

  1. Well, maybe they have slightly tan marshmallow to make it *look* campfired.

Too bad about the mix. This could be a good thing, but I guess they opted to make it all with the cheapest of the three ingredients.

  2. That sounds yucky!

They’re ruining the word “S’mores” with that bar!

  3. Actually, I love the Smores bar! it’s actually one of my favorite candy bars on the market. I’m a marshmallow freak and i also love nougat, plus i like things super sweet, so i guess that’s why i love this candy bar so much.

  4. Aw, I love the S’mores bar! Great texture and I love the flavors. I first discovered this bar and the Take 5 bar at the same time, 5-6 months ago. I hadn’t bought Hershey products in a while, and my mind was pretty blown by these two bars.

  5. These S’Mores bars are SO FREAKIN DELICIOUS, that I am salivating all over my feet just thinking about them.

Your grading system is unfair, because everybody’s tastes are vastly different.

Well, Martini, you pointed out that it’s MY grading system, so of course it’s biased towards MY taste. That’s why the review gives the less biased description of what the candy bar is so that you can decide for yourself if it’s something that you’d like.

Further, this site has comments, so you are not only free to throw your opinion in, but my readers value other people’s thoughts as much as mine.

Plus, a four is not a ‘bad’ review - the rating means ‘benign’ ... as in, “it wouldn’t kill me to eat another one of these.”

One thing I do need to say is that I did get another one recently that was labeled “new great taste” and it was in fact better. I’d give it a 5(pleasant).

  10. Im actually a little disapointed, not with the candy itself but hershey’s and all of the distibutors of the candy because I live in a very populated area where there are drug stores and all kinds of other places to sell candy but none of them carry the S’mores candy bar any more. I have to drive 10.5 miles just to get it now im very frustrated. smile

  12. I love them. I have a love hate relationship with Hersheys now cuz you cant find them anywhere around here. Shame on you Hersheys for taking them off the market ! I would buy a case of them if i could find them. They have such a unique taste when the whole recipe unfolds in your mouth. And that aftertaste is pure heaven. Oh well - nothing good ever lasts thats for sure.

  13. My husband introduced me to eating these straight from the freezer. They are delicious when they are just beginning to thaw!  I later tried one at room temperature and found it too sweet - so sweet that I didn’t want to finish it.  But I keep going back to the frozen S’mores bars.  It’s a totally different experience and I highly recommend it!

  14. Yes Margaret since you mentioned that - i prefer mine out of the fridge and then chopped into say 5 bite sized pieces. And i managed to find a variety store in town that had a box with 23 bars in it two days ago. Was like striking gold. Needless to say i bought all of them - the nice lady behind the counter made me a deal i couldn’t refuse ! She told me she would try to get more. I have my fingers crossed that they’re still available, i know these wont last long…

  15. Oh i forgot to add that when i cant get Smores my next best choice is chilled Three Musketeers Bars. Also chopped into 5 or 6 pieces. Happy Halloween everyone !

  16. Even if it wasn’t a traditional smore, how maNY SMORE products are. It was still the best candybar ever, and I miss it so much.
