Hershey Eggs

For a while Hershey’s made a candy-shelled chocolate candy called Hershey-ets. They’re still produced at Christmas and sold in inside little ornaments or plastic cane-shaped tubes, but they’re not a regular product. Then came Hershey’s Kissables. While they’re a wonderful addition to the Hershey’s line, they’re still not the same as Hershey’s Eggs. Like Cadbury Mini Eggs, these are an Easter Only Item.

There are a lot of egg shaped candies this time of year, and just calling something Hershey’s Eggs seems like a poorly differentiated name. But candy lovers know what we’re talking about. Forget that the packaging probably hasn’t change much in twenty years ... these are just a jolt of chocolate wrapped in hard sugar.

Hershey’s Eggs have it all going on. It’s a large egg of chocolate, bigger than the size of an M&M Peanut. They come in lovely pastel shades of blue, yellow, pink and green. The shells are thick and hard, and give each candy a rather substantial feel. They’re solid milk chocolate and each Egg weighs the same as a single Hershey’s Kiss (really! I checked). The shells are super-thick and crunch but often I find that my shells have cracks in them. As I don’t think you can get salmonella from chocolate eggs, I don’t reject the broken-shelled ones as I would with a carton of chicken eggs. I do find that I’m not able to cleave off the shell with my teeth like I can with an M&M, but the different type of crunch is wholly satisfying. If someone is eating these near you, unless they’re suckers, you’re gonna know it.

Where the bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs smells like sugar and milk, the Hershey’s Eggs smell like chocolate. That tangy milk chocolate from Pennsylvania that you either love or hate. Fortunately there’s enough room in my heart to give both Hershey’s Eggs and Cabury Mini Eggs a ten. And of course I’ll proceed to stock up on these when Easter is over.

  1. These are what Mega M&Ms; should have been.  Actually, I wish Mega M&Ms; were the size of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

Kris - I got this bag just a week ago, so I know they exist. However, when I went to Target, they didn’t even have their Easter candy out yet ... there’s still 4 weeks to go, they may get easier to find.

  5. I remember these from when I was a kid, and I loved them.  The only easter candy I loved even more were these peanut butter filled chocolate eggs that my mom would by at a local candy shop.  Those things were huge, I would have to cut it into thin slices like a loaf of bread.  I haven’t seen these anywhere since I moved to Virginia.  But I have discovered the cadbury mini eggs, which are equally as good in their own way.  I really like putting the cadbury minis in the fridge before I eat them.

  6. I had never had these or the Cadbury Mini Eggs before, so I decided to buy a bag of each and compare them - for scientific purposes of course hehe.  It turns out that I like these a lot better than the Cadbury ones because their chocolate is a lot chocolate-ier.  I think I prefer the smaller size of the Cadbury Eggs though.

  7. Has anyone found the Hershey’s Eggs? I am in LOVE with them & haven’t been able to find them this year!!!! If they made them year-round I would be twice the woman I am now:)

  8. Cricket - I’ve already bought two bags from Rite Aid (I definitely need to stop ^_^), and I’ve seen them at CVS, so you should check your local drugstore.

  11. If you can find them, Nestle’s Smarties eggs, which only appear around Easter, are quite good too. Like the mega-M&Ms; but with out the chalkiness of the chocolate-like product used in M&Ms;

  12. These are the best!  It is a good thing they are only out at Easter - this is one of only two foods that I have absolutely no self control over!

  13. Re: Smartie Eggs

I notice this year they have a distinctly coconut-like taste, hmmm…

  14. YES, these are the best and in fact I am eating a few right now. i am soo obssesed with them that I bought 12 bags and am going to ration then out through the year with one bag a month. I don’t celebrate easter, but easter candy is my fave and these are my favorite.

Al the fans of these candies who wrote in, I am right with you—these make easter for me! I am so glad I have found other people who share this love with me! Ahh, it’s like it all makes sense now. hee hee

  15. These are the BEST candy ever.  We buy tons of bags at Easter and freeze them so we can have them throughout the year.  I could eat the whole bag in one sitting.  I also discovered that they had the same thing at Halloween this year - they were just Orange & Black.  Found a bunch on clearance and froze them too smile

  21. I can’t believe there are others out there.  I was just looking on the Hershey website to ask WHY they don’t produce these during the year and lo and behold I find the answer right in front of me.  They are only produced at Easter.  Last year I was able to buy a dozen after Easter to hold me over for the year.  This year I was only able to find one, that’s (1) bag and I had only bought four for Easter and filled the 6 baskets with 3 and gave one to one daughter who is addicted to them.  They are the bestest candy in the entire world.  Hershey, please please please sell them year round.  They will make you even richer than you already are.  We promise.

  22. I have been addicted to Hershey eggs for years. I happened across this site while searching the web for a place that might still have some for sale! I too typically stock up on them at Easter time. I am known for buying the local Walgreens supply up. (the sales people must think I’m nuts).  This year I couldn’t control myself and ate my entire stash by mid-April. So I am on a hunt.

I am both pleased and amazed that there are so many others just like me.

My name is Kim and I’m addicted to Hershey Eggs!!!

  23. I wish they sold these year round as well.
My favorite candy and the stores never have them long enough. How can we get a similar item year round??? Kissables are similar, but nothing compares to the eggs.  It is the size that matters here!

  24. The Egges are out now. The package has changed though, so keep an eye out. It has pictures of eggs on it now and is not solid baby blue.

  25. Thanks for the info on the package change Jason. I actually have friends that keep their eyes open for these and pick them up when they see them. I will let them know what to look for now.

  26. I am looking for the eggs as well this year and can’t seem to find them.  I have looked in every grocery store between Spokane, Washington and Milwaukie, Oregon.  Is there a way to purchase in bulk on line by chance?  I’ve found the Mini Eggs this year but no Pastels…Any ideas or maybe a photo of what this new bag looks like?

The bag is different this year
I bought some Peeps from this website around Christmas and the service was excellent. Maybe try to look at stores in your area again for the new bag and if you still can’t find them I’d reccomend using the link above.

    good luck

  28. The bag is definitely different (I’ll try to take a photo of it in the next few days). I bought some at Rite Aid but also saw them at Ralph’s (grocery). I have much better luck with the seasonal candy at places like Target or the drug chains than grocery stores.

  30. The new style of bag ( and candy!) are abit different this year. The family sized bag ( Walmart) is brighter, with more decor & colored flowers on the bag. The shell of the egg isnt as thick as it used to be. However, I got a ( also new style but smaller bag & different from the bag at Walmart) at Walgreens, and the thickness of the candy coating was just as it always has been.  I’ve dedicated many long hours to my love of Hersheys Eggs, but can never truly have enough!

  31. The eggs are awesome - YUMM!!!
I did find them at my local drug store and hope to see them again this year - let’s hope!

  32. I like the new smaller bag.  I like to think of it as a single serving bag—- kind of like a 100 calorie pack.

  33. I LOVE these eggs and look for them every year. I think they are so much better than the Cadbury equivalent.

I’m on WeightWatchers this year (2 eggs = 1 pt) and still had to buy a bag since they are a one time a year deal.  I found them at KMart.

  34. I am totally and completely addicted to these and have been for years. They are the absolute best candy ever, and I so wish you could buy them year-round.  I always stock up at Easter, but they just never last long enough afterward.

  35. OMG I am in love with Hershey Eggs. I wish they were out all year. It makes me so incredibly sad that Hershey’s Kissables are no longer being sold because they tasted JUST like the wonderful Hershey eggs but didn’t have the pretty color. I WANT SOME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. I am frantic!! I bought 10 bags of my all-time favorite candy coated chocolate Easter eggs by Hershey, and just as an aside, I dropped my change purse with $320.00 in it after purchasing my eggs.  Now the CVS stores seem to be totally out of these eggs already.  No eggs and $338.00 poorer!! What can I do??  I know the money is a memory, but I need to find a large supply to satisfy my Easter fix.  Can someone help me find my precious eggs?

I think one bag is a snack size. Am I supposed to share them?

Comment by Jason on 3/10/10 at 7:20 am #
  42. I wish I could say the supposed new recipe made the new eggs less appealing but, alas, no such luck!  I’m pleased so many of we egg fiends exist.  Maybe we should all hang out and comiserate about the “huge” difference they’ve made in our lives!  I am almost positive that my egg diet has turned me into a pleasantly plump middle aged woman—once a really thin, hot middle aged woman!!!Damn you Hershey and your sinister eggs!!

Comment by Patricia OBrien on 3/10/10 at 9:29 am #
  43. Patricia, you’re in the right place. Hang out here with a bag of Eggs and you’ll get all the attention you can handle plump or thin wink

  45. These are the best!!!  I wait all year for them
To be in the store. I currently have 2 bags in the fridge now!!!  One opened as we were driving home.  Everyone check walmart. I have bought many there as well as CVS. K-mart has had them
In the past.  One year right after Easter they were 75% off you know I bought all 27 bags of them to last a while.  Why can’t Hershey make them all year????  Love Love Love the eggs!!!!

  50. They have them at Target this year…in milk and white chocolate…the one close to me has sold out.  I also have seen them at a CVS in the past month and if you live around Publix Supermarkets I have seen them at Publix.  Good Luck!  The bags are smaller this year so they are more like a single serving.

  51. Tried EGGS for the first time this year.  Are they supposed to be hard like a rock?  Bought them just before Easter and stored them in my kitchen cabinet. It wasn’t too cold or hot - just room temperature.  Family and I found them hard to bite into and chew. Broke my tooth. Funny, others talk about their cracks.  Mine were rock solid.  I couldn’t cut the shell with a knife, but have since seen EGGS at someone else’s house with cracked shells.  Please comment

Comment by Hard EGGS on 6/03/13 at 7:28 am #
  52. Not sure what is up with their recipe.  I received a letter back placing the blame on shipping and receivers—regarding all the cracked candies… but they did send me also a gift card that covered the cost of the 3 bags I bought. I had furnished them with pictures.

I suggest you got to their website and tell their customer service.  I guess they can’t fix if we don’t tell!

  53. I just bought 2 bags of Hershey eggs (my all-time favorite candy) and there aren’t any yellow ones!! What have they done with the yellow? I know this sounds crazy, but, really, the yellow balanced the spring colors out.
