October 2007 Search Strings

Here we go, the top search strings that brought new readers to Candy Blog in October.

1. candy corn
2. japanese candy
3. carnival skittles
4. wonka nerds halal
5. chico sticks
6. turkish delight
7. candy corn kisses
8. marathon bar
9. choxie
10. bonkers candy

See last years list as a comparison. No one even mentioned Halloween in the top twenty! I wonder if those chico sticks are the same as Chick-o-Sticks?

August 07 Search Strings

Here’s the top 10 search strings that brought folks to Candy Blog last month (except for searching for Candy Blog of course).

1. rose petal donuts los angeles
2. M&Ms
3. carnival skittles
4. hershey cocoa reserve size
5. japanese candy
6. bonkers candy
7. trader joes
8. choxie
9. sour skittles
10. maya gold

Well, this past month had a couple of surprises. Honestly, I can’t figure out “rose petal dontus los angeles” at all. Not only that, I can’t even find what page on my site they’d find when entering those search phrases ... let alone why my site was visited 379 times as a result! The second strange one was the “hershey cocoa reserve size”, and I do come up as the first result on google. However, why 233 folks were looking for that, I have no idea. My guess is these are spambots of some sort sifting through my site contents with these keywords, looking for things to swipe from my site to put on theirs. It happens.

The fun thing is to see the staying power of Carnival Skittles (did you know there’s a Carnival Skittles flavored gum now?) ... I wonder what will be next?

July Search Strings

A year ago I started posting the monthly top search strings that brought people to Candy Blog.

1. carnival skittles
2. m&ms
3. tronky
4. japanese candy
5. balisto
6. maya gold
7. bonkers candy
8. choxie
9. skittles carnival
10. white rabbit candy

Not much has changed in the past year. Tronky and Balisto are new to the top 10, though they’re always in the top 25. I feel bad for folks still looking for Bonkers, since they’re long gone. White Rabbit has had a scare this past month with some tests in the Philippines indicating the candy is contaminated with formalin. China insists it’s not.

One year ago people were looking for Ice Cream Skittles ... this year that search was #12 ... still kinda funny.

I need to find some more Balisto bars, judging from the more recent comments, it deserves a second look (and there are other varieties).

June Search Strings

Here’s the top ten search strings that brought folks to Candy Blog in June.

1. carnival skittles
2. japanese candy
3. skittles carnival
4. maya gold
5. m&ms
6. figamajigs
7. choxie
8. fda chocolate
9. bonkers candy
10. oriental trader

I’m beginning to suspect that people searching for “Maya Gold” on the internet are sorely disappointed when they click over to candy blog and find a review of a chocolate bar.

April Search Strings

April was the end of our most recent Candy Season. I hope everyone has stocked up on excellent candy for the rest of the summer.

Here’s what brought many new readers to Candy Blog in April:

1. cadbury mini eggs
2. fda chocolate
3. japanese candy
4. marathon candy bar
5. easter candy
6. berries and creme
7. maya gold
8. choxie
9. barnegat candy
10. starburst candy

My Don’t Mess with Our Chocolate post is the first thing that comes up when you googled “fda chocolate” but that only accounts for a small number of folks who have been helping educate themselves and spread the word about the issue. Over 7,000 people have read that post so far.

The other searches are mostly old posts I’ve made, except for the Berries and Creme ... folks really want to see that commercial, I guess. It’s a little startling to see the Barnegat candy on the list. The post I made about Hometown Candy, Jordan Almonds and Barnegat is still seeing a lot of traffic as more and more people are swindled by this dubious webstore.

My predictions for this month include Skittles getting on the list and possibly fair trade.

March Search Strings

Last month’s search string are obviously focused on Easter. What I found rather funny was the number of people who found the site while looking for Cadbury Mini Eggs ... why aren’t people going to the Hershey site? What are they finding here that they’re not getting from the site set up by the manufacturer? Is it the opportunity to offer comments, the photos or just because they want more.

1. cadbury mini eggs
2. maya gold
3. mini eggs
4. japanese candy
5. oriental trading
6. easter candy
7. kinder bueno
8. choxie
9. trader joe’s
10. starburst candy

The other thing I found interesting about the search listing is how many people came to the site in search of info about Barnegat, Hometown Candy or Jordan Almonds dot com. About 150 people came to read the post I wrote last year, and plenty more are still adding their comments to the thread with their experiences.

February Search Strings

Here’s the list from last month for search strings that brought people to Candy Blog.

1. choxie
2. maya gold
3. oriental trading
4. japanese candy
5. choxie bar
6. cadbury mini eggs
7. kinder bueno
8. oriental trading company
9. twix
10. bonkers candy

This list is just a bit different than that last few. New to the list are Twix and Oriental Trading Company ... basically because those were new reviews. And the Cadbury Mini Eggs is a new one, but it’s obvious that’s what’s on folk’s mind right now. (They’re on mine, too.)
