Reese’s Sticks

Name: Reese’s Sticks
Brand: Reese’s (Hershey’s)
Place Purchased: Long’s Drugs
Price: $.33 (on sale)
Size: 1.5 ounces
Calories per ounce: 153
Type: Chocolate/Peanut Butter/Crisp

Years ago Hershey’s made an incredibly good candy bar that I miss very much called Bar None. That has very little to do with this candy bar, but I’d been meaning to mention it. It also had wafers. My grief over the loss of that bar kept me from trying this one for more than five years. (Okay, I really didn’t notice it until about a year ago.)

This package contains two wafer sticks with peanut butter cream filling then covered in milk chocolate. Another really pleasant surprise was that the candy looked EXACTLY like it was shown on the package. The wafers are crisp and substantial and the salty hit of peanut butter is immediate. These are not like a peanut butter KitKat at all, if that’s what you were thinking. The wafers are thicker and crunchier (instead of being crisp). The peanut butter filling is just peanut butter, no fancy creamy stuff and I’m not sure if there’s even any sugar at it (most of the sugar in the bar seems to be in the chocolate).

The crunch is nice and the twin bars are a nice, ample size. The paper tray keeps them intact (I really abuse my candy inside the package before I eat it). It’s very filling and the variation in textures (creamy sweet milk chocolate, crunchy wafers and salty smooth peanut butter) is really satisfying. There are four grams of protein in this candy.

Rating - 8 out of 10

This is one of my favorite candy bars. YUM!

      Thanks for the review.

Did you get over to the Choxie tasting at Target yesterday? What did you think?

oh how sad… i’d forgotten about Bar None. That was a great one. Also noticed that recently the Mars Bar has disappeared.

One of my favorite candy bars growing up was Payday, and recently heard people talking about chocolate covered Paydays! Ever heard of such a thing?

I really love the Reese Sticks. They have enough peanut butter taste to satisfy me. I’d forgotten all about Bar None. I can’t recall what it tasted like but I know I liked it. Ohhh, I hope the Mars bar isn’t going…going…gone. I can honestly say that it has to be one of my all time favorites. It really irks me when favorites get discontinued or become ” new & improved.”

Anon - I didn’t get a chance to get there for it. I did, however, drop by on Saturday at a different location and noticed that they have another line of just Christmas themed stuff (more minty things and things with blue snowflakes). They had some stuff on clearance already, so I picked up a little tin of mints.

Sallie & Suzanne - the Mars bar is not gone completely. They renamed it “Snickers Almond”, but it’s the same bar (made by the same people).

Bar None was a wide wafer bar (though after a while they made it into twin sticks like the Reese’s) that had light chocolate cream and some crumbled nuts on top with creamy chocolate. It was super chocolatey. Then they messed around with it and put caramel in it and then it went away.

Snickers Almond!? Oooh, how tricky. I’ll have to go buy one and see how it compares… smile

  2. The only time I recall having heard of chocolate covered PayDays is in the book The Stand by Stephen King. I love Paydays and think a chocolate covered payday would be awesome. However I have never been able to locate information that they ever existed.
