There’s this rumor going around that you can find European flavors of Mentos in the States if you look hard enough (instigated by the comments section here at Candy Blog, I might add) ... at places like the 99 Cent Only store!
While my last visit did not result in a cache of the coveted Pink Grapefruit Mentos, I did find Licorice ones.
They weren’t quite the transcendent experience I’d hoped for. Don’t get me wrong, they’re nice and all. But they’re no Pampelmousse!
They’re white with a slight grey cast to them. They don’t really smell like anything and at first bite they’re slightly minty but then when you get past the crunchy shell there’s a slightly salty, slightly warm and creamy taste of licorice. It’s not a molassesy bite, just an herbal quality. It’s a bit like the licorice Altoids (but of course chewy and not quite as strong).
I don’t see myself picking these up too often, but they make a nice change from the Mint ones. I’m enjoying the second roll much more than the first, so perhaps they grow on you.

I’ve seen the pink grapefruit ones at a gas station minimart - I’m in California. So those, at least, are in the US.
Ooh! There’s a 99 Cent Only in Tracy (about 20 miles away) I’ll be going over there soon. Weird though, that’s about the last place I’d think to find international Mentos of any kind. I’m holding out for some Pamplemousses.
I’ve had these and wasn’t the least bit impressed. I would only buy them if they came with a 2-liter of Diet Coke.
Being in Hawaii, we get some stuff that can only be found in Japan, like Grape Mentos. But I really do wish someplace here would sell Japanese Kit Kat flavors.
I’m pretty sure Grape Mentos are more widely available than that, i’ve had them before. (In NSW)
We don’t have any 99 cent only stores in WA, BUT I do have a cousin going to France in the fall, He said grapefruit mentos were his most random request..LOL I have to make sure i like then before I buy a whole box!!!
Awww… I don’t know of a 99 cent store here but you can bet I’ll be checking Five Below and the Dollar Store. They have some pretty interesting candy choices most of the time anyway.
I’m having a terrible craving for Grape Mentos now… even though I’ve never had them!! :(
i just got back from the 99 cent store here and lo and behold, grapefruit mentos! they also had the licorice ones (which i was not bold enough to try…) but these grapefruit ones really are good, and i typically don’t even care for grapefruit!
I’m from Michigan, and a lot of the international candies, I can find a Meijer.
I don’t know if there are Meijer’s in California, but thats where I find them.
They have an international isle, and I always see European mentos there.
I love the grapefruit Mentos! Then again, I like just about anything grapefruit. I always make sure to get some when I’m in Taiwan when I find them (7-11s are abundant there).
hi
we have the dutch style European mentos
at http://www.hollandsbest.com located in California. San Jose
I love the grape mentos but I cannot find them anymore. Longs drugstore used to carry them but they don’t anymore. Anyone know where I might be able to get them without paying over $40 for shipping?
Hi, I love licorice & especially the mentos, but I have not been able to find any stores in my area that sells them. The one roll I got came from PA & I could order from them again but shipping is very costly. Also I would like to try other flavors i.e. grapefruit, grape, too many to name.
I would also like to find different flavors of Aero & Kit Kat bars, but again I would have to order from Japan for them. We have Dollar stores around here but I’ve never seen any of these items in them. If anyone can help I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Char
They sell Grape mentos here in New Zealand. There not that great, though.
where can you buy the different flavors of mentos online?
At the risk of shorting my supply, Licorice Mentos can still be found at the Dutch-owned Fabric Depot in Portland, OR, but they are often out…especially when I buy all they have! Unfortunately, they haven’t had the grapefruit (my favorite) for at least five years. They also have a good selection of other Dutch licorice and other imported treats, in addition to nearly 3 acres of fabric and sewing supplies from all around the world all under one roof.
