Yup, there it is, the latest KitKat iteration that Hershey has graced us with. It’s mint flavored milk chocolate covering layers of crisp and cream. Limited Edition, so try it and love it and then get upset when it goes away or miss out and curse yourself for the rest of your life.
First, I have to say that the color of the package, like the Orange and Cream one (which didn’t photograph nearly as bad as it looked in real life) is one of the least appealing colors I think I’ve encountered in a while. It’s not a color that I want to eat. It looks like some bad frosting on a cheap cake.
That aside, upon opening the package the KitKat looks perfectly normal. Only there’s a slight minty smell. Upon eating the KitKat there’s the familiar crunch and snap to it, but again, the cooling sensation of mint. It’s not really strong like a York Peppermint Pattie, and the milk chocolate keeps it from being rich like a Girl Scout Mint Thin cookie. But it’s nice. It doesn’t blow me away, but when you think about it, there are very few mint/milk chocolate combos out there, so if I’m in a minty mood, this might be what I grab. (Of course my favorite will always be the sometimes limited edition, sometimes discontinued Hershey’s Cookies n’ Mint.)
I was doing a little research last night and found that Japan has some new Wine KitKats (and White Chocolate Maple Syrup and Strawberry with real strawberry bits). I could just make a KitKat blog.
Once again, here are all the KitKat reviews/profiles to date.
UPDATE: Rating - 7 out of 10
Strange - the minis I purchased came with nice green metallic wrappers.
J-box has wine-flavored ones for sale, very tempting…
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this blog…only bad thing is I have to check it out while I am chowing down on some chocolate…doesn’t sound too bad so far, right? LOL…I just ate a 13 ounce bag of 3 Musketeers Minis…I lose all my self-control here!! LOL…now I just might lose my lunch…Sad thing is, I don’t even really like those blasted things…
I love Kit Kat, but I’m not sure I can forgive them for replacing the lovely 2-part package of foil-wrap and its paper band. That unwrapping/wrapping was part of the whole Kit Kat experience!
So what’s the grade?
Hah! Scott, I forogt to put it in the text (it’s in the categories). 7 out of 10. Not as good as Coffee but not as bad as Orange and Cream.
Thanks for the love Stephanie!
Desertwind - I too miss the two piece packaging. However, I have to admit that I haven’t gotten a stale KitKat since they shifted over to the vacuu-sealed wrappers.
Oo, I’d like to try that! Today I saw Japanese cafe latte flavored Kit Kats (or something like that)...too bad I don’t like coffee. I got maple & butter flavored Pretz though! Good stuff.
I’ve been very tempted to buy the Kit Kat variations from J-List or off of eBay. Heck, I’m thinking about bidding on a Pringles flavor only found in Japan. Hey, I’ve got an idea. Pringles should team up with Hershey’s and have chocolate covered Pringles. I’d buy that.
Wine KitKats! That concept so gives me a thrill: it has the surreal-yet-banal quality of one of my dreams…
I just discovered your site a few days ago and have really enjoyed it! I was intrigued enough by the thought of Wine KitKats to google them, and ended up on Wikipedia…check it out! All those crazy flavors! Plus an interesting tidbit about why they’re so popular in Japan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kit_Kat
I wish I could find the dark chocolate ones.
I love this flavor, it’s SO good. 1, 2 or maybe three minis as a dessert is perfect. But to finish the whole bag while watching tv wouldn’t be
too bad either. lol
