Hershey’s Mint Truffle Kisses

Mint Truffle KissesAs I tried to document back in October, there are about 100 different varieties of Hershey’s Kisses, all issued this year in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Kiss. Some are inventive new flavor combinations, some are rather poor executions of good ideas and still others are just different wrappers.

While it appears that Hershey’s has not reintroduced their seasonal favorite, the Mint Kisses, they did do a wide release of the Mint Truffle Kisses. They’re obviously a winter or holiday item with the snowflakes on the package. While I’ve been looking around for the vexingly hard to find Malt Crunch, I’ve had no trouble finding the Mint Truffle, so I waited to buy them at the best price.

The Kisses come in either a silver foil with green writing or green foil with silver writing. Inside there’s a minted dark chocolate shell with a light green minted truffle filling.

As with many of the other filled Kisses, these are a little greasy on the outside. (The Coconut Creme were huge offenders on this front.) They feel a bit cool on the tongue, that could be the huge dose of peppermint going on there but they also melt pretty easily as well. The truffle center isn’t super smooth, it’s more like a really soft and creamy mint frosting. It has a bit of a salty note to it, much more noticeable than the chocolate shell, this cuts through what would probably be a super-sweet Kiss. I like the little pop it gives it.

There are no partially hydrogenated oils in here but 40% of your RDA of saturated fats in just 9 Kisses. This bag also seems to be more generous than some. It has 11 ounces in it, most recent bags of limited edition Kisses are 8.5 ounces (of course that could just be the size that the other stores I frequent choose to carry).

  1. I keep a 4-inch terra cotta pot on my desk (I work for a plant company) full of new and different flavors of kisses.  Basically the stuff that I want to taste, but after 1 or 2 I need to get rid of the rest of the bag.  I could NOT stop eating these when they had their turn as flavor of the week.  When I was down to just a couple I set them next to my computer so I could fill the pot with a different flavor.  Several hours later I picked one up and it was just slightly softened…oh, heaven.  I saw the malt crunch in my local K-mart recently and wondered if you’d found them yet.  Hopefully they’ll turn up!

  2. These were good.  I also thought they were salty, but my brother didn’t agree, so I thought it was just me.

I haven’t been able to find the malt either.  The newest flavor I’ve seen is Trio Kisses—milk and dark chocolate with a white drizzle, if memory serves correctly.  I saw them at Target but I don’t need another bag of candy!  But I may just cave and use them in a thumbprint cookie or something.

  4. Yes, I can vouch for what Kimberly said. I found my malt Kisses at Kart too.

Trio Kisses Alicia? Those are new! The more recent ones I’ve seen have been the Marshmallow.

  9. I just had the hot cocoa ones. They were a little, well, bland, but I certainly wouldn’t spit one out!

  10. Oh, these are a dessert delicacy of a candy. Rich, smooth, deliciously melt-in-your-mouth, with a cool mint spark. I would have given them a big fat 10!

  13. I just discovered these little guys in my Christmas stocking this year, and wanted to add that the salty note that people are detecting is probably to emulate the famous (infamous?) Frango mint meltaways from Macy’s (formerly Marshall Field’s). Frangos are my undeniable all time favorite chocolate, and to be able to get these Kisses without a special trip to Chicago (and $18 for a box!), I think they’re pretty darn passable wink I’ve eaten…well…a lot this evening.

  14. I also love these, they really reminded me of Andes Mints, which I love! I found these at my Walgreens, so you might have luck there.

  15. I keep hoping that hershey’s will come back with the mint chocolate kisses without the truffle. The way they first came out. I never cared for that flavor of mint and the solid mint/chocolate of the original style was a lot better for baking.
