Nestle Carlos V Milk Chocolate

Name: Carlos V
Brand: Nestle (Mexico)
Place Purchased: Jon’s Market (Los Angeles)
Price: $.99 for three
Size: .75 oz each
Type: Milk Chocolate

First, I have to say that I appreciate the size of these bars. They’re not miniature sized and not full candy bar sized. They’re the right size. You can eat two and probably not feel bad about it.

The image of Carlos V on the front kind of creeps me out the same way that the Burger King pantomime character in the recent commercials does, but maybe you don’t have a problem with that.

Anyway, what’s inside is a small milk chocolate bar. It’s kind of a cross between a European Cadbury bar, with its sticky milkyness and an American Nestle bar with its strong chocolate flavor. It’s very sweet, but I know that’s most people’s attraction to milk chocolate over dark chocolate. It was not at all grainy and had a pleasant vanilla scent. It melted well on the tongue. Mostly what I got from it though is a taste of powdered milk - which if you don’t think about it too hard tastes kind of like malt. But don’t think too hard if you’re going to enjoy this bar, just eat it.

Rating: 6 out of 10.

  2. jajaja yes he is a little creepy but not as much as the burger king guy. they just recently changed the face on the wrapper, to make it “modern” but from many comments I have heard this change was not very appreciated.

  3. I love those. For a while they had little puzzles and crap on the wrappers and I saved them.

  10. I tried a Carlos V a while ago and they’re horrible…like, powdered milk—really?! Milk chocolate is already bad enough. The Mexican market evidently has low standards for chocolate bars, which is sad because chocolate comes from Latin America. Then again, it also makes sense because L.America is fairly impoverished, so for disgusting corporation to make max profit, they’ll have to cut corners to make a garbage bar that is affordable. Bummer.

  11. First of all Alex I find it very rude that you are targeting the Mexican market. Also, not all of Latin America is impoverished. Perhaps you should get your facts straight before leaving a rude comment. Not to be disrespectful, but perhaps it is your taste buds that are accustomed to to the chocolates of your culture. Therefore you are not able to fully enjoy a chocolate bar from a different culture.
On the other hand, I enjoyed devouring the Carlos V. I also think the king on the bar is a bit odd.

  12. Delicious. Hard to get in Canada, though. (Same as real corn tortillas). :(
