Candyology 101 - Podcast Episode 17 - Haribo

Candyology101-17-Haribo

There are a lot of gummis out there, but none are like the original Haribo from Germany. In this episode Maria and I geek out over our favorite Haribo candies.

You can listen right here or download the MP3 file. Do check out the show notes on our Candyology101 website.

  3. Another sweet podcast! I literally ran out to CostPlus and did a mini candy haul. I got me some Fizzy Colas, Ginger-Lemons, and Peaches. I haven’t tried the peach ones yet but the other two are new favorites! Can’t wait for the next one. Take care, girls!

  4. Whats with candy manufacturers using less gelatin and more glucose syrup over time? (Less dense)
I remember gummi bears and cola bottles as a kid that would almost pull your teeth out when you try to bite/tear a piece

cool story: my dad knew a guy who bought an old factory, inside he found papers from the earliest 1900s, they were recipes for all different candy from the time, that the long-since shut down factory used to produce. He took it at a popular London antique auction. Much to my protest- that’s the most my dad could tell me, unfortunately.

I always wonder… why did the factory close? Or change location? Were those candies common or something produced by only that company? Did the buyer intend to recreate those sweets? Or god forbid, keep the papers locked away in plastic sleeves…
Also, what happened to the oompa loompas?

i think starmix is named after star, as in popular mix
Ive tried the smurfs and i wasnt impressed nearlyas much as when i read all the fruit juice concentretes on the ingredients

What i did like was the limited edition starmix that included a blue gummybear! Its funny because around 12 years ago i had a saying with my ex “if i ever found a single blue gummy bear, id give it to you”

There are various brands of winegums here, the ones i like the most are 10-15 or 20 p a pack, i always hunt for the ones with the most purple and red ones.

i love the milkshake haribo, theyre my favorite. I was going to suggest those even before you two talked about them.
Id be happy to send you an assortment of stuff at my own expense.

Ps: sometimes i play around with the cola, cherry, rootbeer and creamsoda neat syrups used for soda stream machines (ive never used them for soda, ive had varied success making boiled sweets, hard lollys and ice lollys and tbh i dont see why people need to buy a device that carbonates water when you can buy sparkling/soda water and add the syrup to the part-emptied bottle)

i think a cola flavoured gummy in the shape of obama’s head would be cool (half jokingly)
