Nerds GumballsI have only one gum that I consume regularly. It’s plain old Chiclets (peppermint). They’re not that easy to find (and I think made in Colombia now) so when I see the multipack at the 99 Cent Only store I usually grab one. I then empty out the box on my desk and divide the pieces up into groups of three. I chew three pieces at a time and then spit it out when the sugar is gone. Rinse, repeat. A whole box of 12 pieces might last an hour. Sugarless gum is great for freshening breath and calming a queasy stomach, but Chicklets are like candy to me. But let’s face it, they’re just white tiles ... sometimes I want something pretty to chew on. So the 99 Cent Only store didn’t have the Chiclets last time I was in there ... so I bought these gumballs (hey, at 4 for 99 cents, how could I resist?). Made by Wonka, they’re plain old large gumballs with Nerds inside. They’re big gumballs and have a pleasant rattle when you shake them close to your ear. The Nerds inside are confetti colored and have no relation to the outside color/flavor of the gumball itself. Some gumballs had lots of Nerds in them, with 12 being about average. However, there were two gumballs (I consumed two packages) that had four or less. The gum itself was ordinary with a light fruity flavor. Orange: orange - mild and pleasant. The tart bump of the Nerds was nice and combined well with the sugary graininess of the gum. Purple: grape - it had that bitter initial taste to it, which I suspect is the food coloring. The flavor was floral and fruity though it faded quickly but went well with the Nerds. Red: cherry - a light cherry flavor and a slight bitter tinge but sweet and pleasant after the flavor was halfway gone. Green: apple - I’m not sure what flavor this was, it was sweet and fruity and had a slight sour bite which goes nicely with the grainy tartness of the Nerds. Yellow: lemon - sweet and tangy and probably the most flavorful of all of them, not that it lasted very long. I’m not going to switch to these. The flavor wasn’t very intense, though the gum was nice and soft and had a good sugar charge to it that was supplemented by the Nerds. If you’re one of those people who likes to eat saltines with your gum for a nice crunch, these might be perfect for you.

Meticulously photographed and documented reviews of candy from around the world. And the occasional other sweet adventures. Open your mouth, expand your mind.

Wait - wha? Saltines with gum? Could you please explain?
Thanks!
Jennifer, I’d assume like Cybele says, it’s for crunch. I often “top up” my gum with a mint - It restores the flavour and adds little gritty bits.
I’m not feeling these though, I’ve never liked gumballs, apart from those dimpled ones that look like mini golfballs, the sound they make in your mouth is cool.
I actually like those. How did you make the gumball curl in the pic?
What I want to know is what you’re giving out for Halloween this year, Cybele. Is it convention or cool or conventional AND cool? Either way, you should clue us in on what you’re treating the kids to this year.
I kind of like these, but the flavor really doesn’t last long so I go through them really fast. The store I get them in sells them in individual packs in bulk, and also has a similar item filled with sour candy with “ShockTarts” printed on them. Those are really good. Super sweet but then a good sour bite. But again, the flavor doesn’t last long at all.
I found these to be pretty good…once im finished crunching the nerds….i have gum for about 5 minutes. Then i usually swallow it.lol
Jennifer - it was never a favorite of mine, but my brother used to like to eat saltines with is bubble gum. He said he liked the crunchy texture. We were simple children with inventive minds.
GTO - I got some of those earlier this year, just cuz they were pretty.
Dave - I whacked a package on the table to crack them open to show the Nerds (biting them wasn’t very attractive for the photo).
Malice - thanks for the reminder - I had my husband take a photo, just for you!
Jay - holy moly! A case of 700 gumballs, best buy a single pack first to make sure you like them.
g - yeah, I’d probably pick a mix that didn’t include the red ones (of course). ShockTarts version sounds good too!
Imara’s Mom - noooo! You swallow your gum?
go to ebay and put in this item number or search for nerd gum balls

I can’t find shock tart filled gum by Wonka ANYWHERE now. I’m sooooo bummed.
I love nerds, but inside a gumball? Candy overkill. I usually end up hurting my teeth with these.
I liked this gum more than any other. I was well pleased. I only knew of one place to find these gumballs in town and I always remember to get some when I am in that store. The Nerds go well with the gum. I love the product.
i would like to were can buy like abox of this gumballs because this like the best thing i have ever had.they are the hardes thing to find.
i have been looking for this nerd gum for a while now can u please tell where i can fine this gum.
Hey everybody,
I know the thread is older but I saw that a lot of people were wondering where to get these gumballs in larger amounts. I work for a gumball machine vendor and gumball/ candy supplier and we carry these gumballs in cases of 850 for about $40.00 a case. The website is <a href=“www.gumball-machine.com”>Gumball Machine Warehouse<a>, feel free to give me a call as well @ 866-648-6225 if you have any questions. I hope this falls within the guidelines of commenting. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes :/
