Candy Blog goes to the All Candy Expo

Follow along on my adventures at All Candy Expo!

Starting Monday I’ll be blogging from Chicago. If it’s a product preview/review it’ll be on the front page of Candy Blog, otherwise it’ll be on my special Candy Expo Diary. I’m hoping to post lots of photos on Flickr as well.

Daily reviews will continue, as usual, below.

  1. Ooh, can’t wait to read all about it.  Ever since I moved to Chicago I’ve been trying to find a way to sneak into the All-Candy Expo.  Make sure you don’t overfill your bag—they’ll take it away! Hee.

HERESHEIS .. wrapper design and launched the custom wrapper business with this birth announcement for his granddaughter..

I just wanted to say hello, tell you I thought your blog was pretty cool, and hope you have a great time at the Candy Expo .. this will be my first visit as well, and am really excited..

  6. In Menthos-related news today. I heard about this on NPR on my drive home.

I’m thinking that you will consider this a waste of 523 perfectly good menthos.

  8. Amazing recap from the expo!  I am newly addicted to reading your blog smile  I would love to read a review on the Ritter Sport series.  They are everywhere here in Canada and I’ve been wondering if they were any good.

eliza - they did have a guy at the door of the Candy Time Room and he was taking candy away from folks!

nani - I’m sorry to say that I didn’t experience much of Chicago during my trip, which is too bad, because I really like the city. Next time I’m going to come in a few days earlier and do it right!

Jenny - since you seem to have an interest in beverages, did you try the soda bottle toppers (there were two companies with them)?

Corinne - I’ve reviewed quite a few Ritter already - check them out here (some new dark ones coming up!)

I’m going to leave this sticky header up until the end of the week when I’m done wrapping up my coverage.

  10. Hi Cybele,

It seems like you had a great time in Chicago! I thought you might be interested in the following excerpt from Chicago Magazine’s weekly dining newsletter “Dish”:

    Electric Candyland
In search of the latest sweets out there, we sent our trusty intern, Carleigh Connelly, to the 2006 National Confectioners Association All Candy Expo at McCormick last week to taste a little bit of everything. ?I have lost my taste buds completely,? she said upon her return. After wandering to her desk in a daze, she came up with the five Most Interesting Candies You?ve Never Heard Of.

    1. Bada Beans Tins: Add a shot of hazelnut, vanilla bean, or caramel fudge to your coffee by dropping a couple of these tasty nuggets into your morning cup. They?re fat free, they?re sugar free, and you can hide them in your pocket.

    2. Les Fondues au Chocolat: Charming stone tumblers filled with rich chocolate come with seven flavors, such as dark chocolate with orange. Your own fondue party is just a few minutes in the microwave away.

    3. Tung Toos: Eighty different designs of candy tattoos for your tongue in six fruity flavors, such as Icky Sticky Watermelon and Tongue Sockin? Mouth Rockin? Razzzzzberry. Say ahh.

    4. CandiCraft Pens and Paper: Pens filled with fruit-flavored ?ink? and edible paper allow kids to craft works of art, then eat them.

    5. Scripture Candy: In every bag of Faith Pops and each tin of sugar-free fish-shaped mints, there?s sweet salvation. Each candy is marked with a Bible verse supporting the company?s mission: ?Reaching the World One Piece At a Time!?

  11. I’m curious how you get into the Candy Expo.  Sounds like a great time.

Have you heard about the new M&Ms; flavors coming out?  I splurged and bought them.  Can’t wait until they show up on my doorstep.

  12. ooohhh i was sooo glad to see you got more sonrics products!  i know that you didn’t have a great experience before, but the (rockaleta) shoks are good when you first try them because they are a lot smaller and dissolve into gum quicker.  i haven’t had the tamarind rockaleta pop, but i love pulparindo (brand is de la rosa i think) and this other candy that is like a plastic stick coated in tamarind pulp and chili powder (it even has tamarind seeds!).  if you have a local mexican grocer you should be able to find that stuff easy.  online works too.  happy candy eating!

ps: sorry for such a long comment!
