About six months ago I got to preview the new Chocolate Covered Altoids. They were tasty, but I never found myself gobbling them up.
At the RiteAid the other night I finally found the missing piece to the trio of flavors: Ginger. I don’t know why they were so hard to find, believe me, I looked just about everywhere locally. Now, I’ve heard that the ginger ones are bad. But I like Ginger ... I love Ginger ... do you think I will love Chocolate Dipped Ginger Altoids?
They’re woodsy, spicy and strong. The chocolate flavor only stands up to the ginger for a moment, then backs away and gives the normally chalky candy some texture.
I’ve had them on my desk for about 24 hours and they’re pretty much gone. I’ve gobbled them up. Sure they’re burning me up, but sometimes I just like that in a candy. They’re a little expensive, too expensive for me to have them more than sometimes.
I think I’d like them in Liquorice as well ... but I doubt that’s gonna happen any time soon.
As with other Altoids, these contain gelatin and are not suitable for vegetarians. The are also manufactured on equipment that processes milk, wheat & nuts (tree & pea).

I find these utterly addictive. I just bought some more today at Gelsons. I also like the cinnamon ones.
Now I love ginger, but these didn’t work for me. I don’t know what it was, but I couldn’t enjoy them. Maybe I got a bad tin of them, but I just couldn’t eat them.
I figured somebody out there would love them, though.
These have been teasing me from the check out aisle. I’m not a big fan of Altoids so I wasn’t sure. But I LOVE ginger too - so maybe I’ll give em a chance.
I really wonder if they have quality control problems on the ginger ones. Mine tasted like straight dirt, not earthy as ginger should. And I really like ginger.
Or perhaps it’s a tastebud thing, as I don’t get the bitterness from cherry flavored treats that you do, Cybele. Oh, well. I do like the other choco-Altoids!
By the way, you’ve been outdoing yourself recently on your posts. Quite impressive and enjoyable. Thanks.
I don’t like ginger so I won’t be trying those, but I do loooove the chocolate/mint ones. Mmm…
I’ll have to try Rite Aid! I have been wondering why I couldn’t find these.
I love the chocolate covered cinnamon ones, and I have resigned myself to just gobbling up the entire tin each time, damn the expense and the burn!
NOT GELATIN!!! NOOOO =(
I was really looking forward to trying these, I’m a big fan of both ginger and altoids.
That’s quite unfortunate.
I love these. LOVE LOVE. One of my favorites.
I saw these at Safeway last night…and I’ve seen them at Target here in WA too.
How come eveything on the altoids website is out of stock? Dont they make these everyday?
FYI - The “ginger ones are bad” link goes to the space food sticks review for some reason.
