I recently had some Toffifay candies for the first time since I was a tween and thought they were divine. I thought they were divine when I was a tween too and back then, the ad campaign was that these bite-sized delights were “too good for kids” and “made for grownups.” I remember my tennish-or-elevenish-year-old self seeing these commercials and thinking, what the fudge? Too good for kids? Like if you’re not a fully-grown, full-fledged, bona fide Capital-A Adult, you’re not human or something? For crying in Manhattan! Of all the stupid, prejudicial, ageist taglines. Why should a child or teen be denied the pleasures of the finest confectionery going because he or she is a child or teen? Candy is for EVERYONE and tastes are individual.
Anyone else think that the Toffifay “too good for kids” ad campaign was offensive and stupid?
