caramels are too hard

I tried a new caramel recipe(i lost mine) today.  I followed the recipe to a t and my caramels came out like a rock.  is there anything i can do to fix them?

I don’t think there is. I think it’s just easier to start over.

I’ve done that before, cooked my caramels until I have toffee ... well, not good toffee that crunches easily. Bad toffee that cements your teeth together.

Maybe you can put it in the freezer, break it up and use it in some other recipe like toffee chips.

If it still tastes good, perhaps melting it down again and making a caramel sauce by thinning it with cream?
