A new candy shop by the name of Sweettooth has opened in the old Pink Rose Pastry Shop, on the NW corner of 4th & Bainbridge in Philadelphia. Candy, nuts, dried fruits, etc. is sold by the 1/4lb (pricing, I believe, is around $2.49 or so, but don’t quote me on that). When you make your 1st purchase, you are given a punch card that allows for a free 1/4lb after the purchase of 10.

Name that GERMAN Candy!!!

Hi all,

I grew up in Germany in the late ‘70s. We used to visit a candy store in Ansbach. I am trying to figure out what two of the types of candy they sold were.

The first was a sour candy with a consistancy of a sugar cube (it kind of melted away in your mouth). It was about 1"x.75"x.5” and wraped in a plastic wrapper. For a while, these candies had Smurf characters on the wrapper. They came in a few different flavors. I can remember orange, lemon, and grape… might have been more.

Ok, the second candy looked almost exactly like paper. Yeah, paper. It was ultra thin and about 8.5"x11” (no idea what the real measurement was but lets say it was a thin rectangle). It came in multiple colors but (if I remember correctly) the color did not really change the taste. Over all they tasted sort of bland rather then real sweet. You could tear it or bite it but it was flexible sort of wafer-ish. You would buy it by the sheet. Unwrapped.

Please help. Leave a post here or write direct at eyeinthesky57 at gunclangaming dot com

Thanks a ton.

Do you remember the BEST LIFE-SIZE EASTER CANDY EGGS EVER?

When I was a kid in NY (upstate) during the ‘70’s, one of my aunts would give each child who visited her home during Easter one of the BEST things I’ve ever eaten:

Life-sized candy eggs that were packaged in a real egg carton. They had a hard, thin, opaque matte white sugar shell and a thick layer of dark chocolate inside, which in turn was lined with a thin edible wafer, though the egg itself was hollow. I don’t remember if there were prizes inside, but I think there were.

These were NOT the Kinder eggs from Germany, which are simply hollow dark chocolate covered in white chocolate, wrapped in foil.

These eggs were a little tricky to break open. They were sweet but not overwhelming, and they were satisfyingly crunchy and really fun to receive and eat.

My online investigations led to several dead ends. These may have been made by or imported by Perugina, and circulated in Manhattan during the seventies. For some reason I thought they were from Germany. I don’t know if my aunt had them delivered from NYC or from Europe, but I haven’t seen these since 1979.

If you remember them or know where to find them, holla!

Where can I find Reeses’ White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups?

Does anybody know of a retail store in Los Angeles that still carries Reeses’ White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups? I used to buy them at Target and now they have completely disappeared and seem to be only available on the internet. Has anybody seen them in a store recently?

chocolate edition skittles and Cinnabon Pecan Clusters

I used to get them all the time last Spring and Summer at a corner store whenever I went for a walk which I did do today because the weather was just warm enough. (I hate winter!) The corner store where I buy them from was closed at the time I went for a walk today and I couldn’t see if they had any or not but when I do find out which is hopefully soon if the weather keeps on being warm I’ll give this page a update.

These candies were my 2nd favorite candy but my number one favorite candy I think I can say is gone now, they were the Cinnabon Milk Chocolate or White Chocolate Pecan Clusters. I really miss these so much because I used to buy them all the time last Summer too and there is no candy that can possibly compare to how good they were and it confuses me how awesome candy like that can just suddenly disappear but candy made by companies like Hershey’s stay in business when their chocolate taste like crap. It just has this really fake chocolate taste and texture to it and no matter if you eat it slow or fast it is still terrible.

Oh well maybe they just didn’t get enough publicity but I’m still looking for them.

In looking for people of the Cranton last name, I came across a gentleman from South Africa who told me his first name was Cranton, given after the favorite candy of his Grandfather, Cranton Crisps.
Has anyone any information on this candy?? I am guessing it must have been around the 1920"s-1940’s sometime??
Thanks!

Mystery Beligum street candy

Hi everyone,

I was in Brussels a few years ago. A street vendor was selling these small cone-shaped jelly candies. They had a soft jelly interior and a powdery semi-soft crust. Hard to explain… The ones I had were a light purple color and a fruit flavor. Does anyone know what these are called and where I can get them?
