While working on the Frequently Asked Questions, one subject has come up that I thought might demand its own post. How did I start writing about candy?
That question assumes that there was a time that I didn’t write about candy.
To illustrate this, I present a short story I wrote at the age of 10. As embarrassing as it is to reveal my earlier works, it is kinda funny that the only fiction I can find from my grade school days has candy as a main subject.
There’s not much text, so I retyped it as the caption for the page images. Click here to see the story.
That is SO cute!!!
Thanks for brightening my day!
Two questions. Harsy’s is supposed to be Hershey’s Right? So were you worried about trademark infringement at age 10? Or was it an artistic choice. Also who was your inspiration for Henry?
Thanks Sera & desertwind!
Crispin - yes, I think I figured out that you couldn’t use trademarked products in commercial works early on. I think that’s why the good fairy’s name is “Glindal” .... how clever am I?
Are you suggesting that Henry is you? Actually, I think it might be Paul, that kid who lived up the road from us.
Wow. That is amazing. I like the absence of any sort of person or drawing in the second half.
That was so cute! I love how all the pictures at the end are just text bubbles coming from no one! And that you drew the swingset, but not her swinging on it!
