Limited Edition Strawberried Peanut Butter M&Ms

For the past few years M&Ms has linked up with blockbuster movies to make Limited Edition M&Ms. Shrek (Mega M&Ms), Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (Mint Crisp M&Ms), Pirates of the Caribbean (White Chocolate M&Ms) and Star Wars (Dark Chocolate M&Ms). This summer is no different with the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

M&Ms Strawberried Peanut Butter

To tie into the movie about aliens that are two kinds of robots in one (more than meets the eye) Mars is introducing Limited Edition Strawberried Peanut Butter M&Ms.

Not only are the candies inside of the “you’ve never tasted this before” variety, they’ve also made seven different versions of the wrapper. Pictured above is The Twins - Pack 7 of 7.

M&Ms Strawberried Peanut Butter

What is a strawberried peanut butter M&M?

They’re pretty much the same as the regular Peanut Butter M&Ms: a peanut butter center covered in milk chocolate and a hard candy shell ... except here the milk chocolate is strawberry flavored.

I admit at first I squintched up my nose at the idea. Then I thought about PB&J (which is ideal with concord grape and white bread on one side, but also fabulous with sunflower wheat bread and raspberry jam) and it kind of made sense.

The colors are red, brown and yellow.

There were no clever motifs on the printing, just the regular M imprint. Except the yellow ones had some red splatter on them (I’m guessing that’s red transformer motor oil).

The strawberry flavor is just that, a flavoring applied on top of the inherent flavors in the peanut butter and the chocolate. The chocolate flavor is pretty much overwhelmed by the floral and sweet berry essences. The peanut butter grounds it pretty well, it’s mostly smooth, rather soft and has a good salty pop towards the end.

They’re not my favorite M&Ms ever, but I had no problem eating the whole bag. They feel about as relevant to the movie as last year’s mint crisp was to Indiana Jones.

I’ll leave you with a photo of the Bumblebee Transformer. Because I had it (hey, I work in Hollywood, I see a lotta stuff):

  1. Haha, you found them. I found myself a single serving bag at the dollar store and I was blown away with these. From me, they surely get a 10. I loved them and I’m going to get the big bag next time I see them!

  2. I wish M&M’s would make a dye-free version.  They would sell like hotcakes.  Place in whole foods and they would sell out

  3. I am extremely intrigued by these, as a lover of PB M&Ms;.  Might have to search these out.

  4. I found these yesterday afternoon, and thought of you, Cybele!  I came to see if you knew about them and saw they were on deck, so I was looking forward to your review of them.

i found these on base at the commissary of all places.  i think they’re pretty dang tasty, although nothing will ever match the deliciousness of last year’s beloved mint crisp m&ms;.

  6. Intriguing! I definitely want to try these. smile I love the idea of strawberry and peanut butter, since I’m a huge fan of PB&Js; with different jams. The tie-in with the movie, as are most food-related tie-ins with movies, is pretty weak. I remember when Haagen-Daaz came out with ice cream flavors to relate to Twilight. Ice cream and vampires? M&Ms; and giant robots?

  9. I LOVED these.  I don’t like any other M & M’s, but grabbed a few of these from my boyfriend and was blown away.  I can’t believe no one thought of making a pb and j reeses pieces, these are brilliant

  10. Funny - these are called Peanut Butter and Jam flavoured up in Canada and my wife can’t get enough of them.

  13. stella - They can be found at Walmart.  The woman in front of me checking out a week ago had a bag and told me that they were addictive. Think I’ll be going back to get some.

Good luck in finding them in your area!

  14. These are soooo good. I prefer the Canadian name(peanut butter and jam) to the U.S. but regardless - as odd as they sound ‘strawberried peanut butter’ they are fantastic. Nice change of pace and new flavor twist.

  15. Coming back to say I found these, tried them, and couldn’t even get through a full pack.  Too artificial tasting.  I would rate them even lower than you did!

Comment by Susan on 6/01/09 at 8:32 am #
  16. Hey TheHead and Mik, where did you find them in Canada? I thought we didn’t have them here as I only saw Transformers regular and peanut at Walmart. I loved last year’s Indiana Jones mint crispy tie-in M&M’s, and I thought these new ones sound neat, like peanut butter and jam sandwiches.

  17. EXCELLENT article.  Great points. I’m going to try some of these!

  18. Found these at Target. Like you, Cybele, I was initially turned off by the name-it just sounded too weird until I, also, thought of PB & J. I’d say these were “ok”—not gonna’ stock up on these, but I’ll enjoy a few more. It seems like the shelll has the strawberry, but when that’s gone, the PB inside is great! 5 out of 10 stars! I still wish Mars would bring back the dulce de leche M & Ms or come up with a caramel M & M!

  19. I tried these today, and they were pretty good. Not great, but good. Now, have you tried these-  http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3651/3588748547_94f0b7ce00.jpg?v=0

  20. Hello All, I have been searching for the new strawberried peanut butter M&Ms; but can’t seem to find them at a local Walgreens, supermarket or even Target.  Anybody reside in the Bay Area, CA and let me know where to get them? Any info would be great.  Thanks!

  21. I’ve been looking everywhere for these with no luck!  Walgreens, Target, gas stations, grocery store. Maybe I’ll brave it to Walmart, which is tough with a new baby in tow. If anyone has found them in St. Louis, please let me know where you found them.

  22. I DO KNOW YOU CANT FIND THESE ON EBAY!!! I HAVE LOOKED EVERYWHERE MYSELF UNTIL I BOUGHT THEM ON EBAY

  23. I absolutely love these. Walmart sells them in a big bag and on sale 2 for $7 i believe. They are such an inventive product but the M&M’s website has no link to purchase them :(

  24. I just found these at Blockbuster (which is also where I was able to find the Indiana Jones M&Ms; last year). I’m hoping to resist the temptation of breaking into them until Saturday ... I bought them for a July 4th party!

  26. Yeah…not a fan.  I found my single-serving bag in the checkout at Wal-Mart, though, for those who are having a hard time find them.

  27. This is by far the best M&Ms; product I have ever eaten.  I bought my first bag on Friday, July 10th, at our local WalMart.  I am heartbroken now because they are COMPLETELY OUT! Please M&M’s Mars company- don’t make them a limited edition! Bring them back for a permanent home in my tummy please! I think I speak for everyone when I say BRING THEM BACK PLEASE! You’ll make millions and trillions.

  29. I LOVE THESE! I found a bunch at Wal-mart but with a different wrapper - the packages is like a stripe or checkered pattern of orange or red and brown, kind of odd looking for a m&m package, but the contents are the addictive ones

Comment by Dave on 7/18/09 at 9:26 pm #
  30. I didn’t like them. Too artificial-tasting. It’d be much better it they had actually used strawberry jelly.

  31. I bought a small bag of these on vacation a month ago in another state and loved them. I got home and found them in Wal-mart and bought a BIG bag of them. They are the best candy ever!!
I went back to get another bag and they are out:(
Can you bring these back as a permanent M&M??
Where can we get these? Can we order them from the company??
PLease do not tease us with these and then take them away.
    Please consider making them permanent!!
    thank you for making them.

  33. LOVE THESE! A friend told me about them and in three weeks we’ve gone through six medium bags of those (and by “we” I mean “me.”) Please don’t discontinue them!!

Comment by Cathy on 8/09/09 at 11:54 pm #
  34. I too love them. Had my first medium bag when they came out. Then I went back looking for them and they were no where to be found. I had to have my parents import them from Massachusetts. Two medium bags should last a little while. Please make them a permanent m&m flavor!!!!

  37. I love this candy.  I generally do not like sweets at all, but the flavor of peanut butter and jelly makes my day.  I tried them at Walgreens and bought a case at Wa-lmart.  I am running out now and I’m worried that Wal0mart won’t have any more.  This NEEDS to become a regular m&m flavor.

What I found crazy, was that my wife and I were in Vegas, and we went to the M & M’s store and all of the employees looked at us like we had two heads, they never heard of them???
Oh well, I got my stash….

  52. dalton - they were a limited edition item. If you find them in stores, they are likely to be old and past their prime. So proceed with caution or at the very least, low expectations.
